Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis honored the C-60 soldiers who gave a strong response to the Naxalites in Gadchiroli. Meanwhile, 11 Naxalites, including Tarakka Sidam, surrendered before the Chief Minister at Gadchiroli Police Headquarters. A total of 11 Naxalites, including senior cadre Vimla Chandra Sidam alias Tarakka, surrendered before Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli on Wednesday. A collective reward of Rs 1.03 crore was placed on the heads of all these Naxalites. All of them were involved in the attack on security personnel.

The original name of Tarakka was Vimala Seedam

The most prominent among the Maoists who surrendered before the CM is Dandakaranya Zonal Committee member Vimala Chandra Sidam alias Tarakka. Vimala was involved in the Naxalite movement for the last 38 years. CM Fadnavis also honored C-60 commandos and officers for their bravery in anti-Naxal operations. He said that given the increase in the number of Maoists laying down arms and the movement’s failure in recruitment, Maharashtra will soon be free from the Naxalite menace. The original name of Tarakka is Vimala Seedam. More than 170 serious crimes are registered against Tarakka, carrying a bounty of more than Rs 1 crore, in four states. Tarakka has played an important role in promoting the Maoist movement in Gadchiroli district.

Gadchiroli’s first Maoist

Tarakka is the wife of Bhupathi, a second-ranking central committee member of the country’s Maoist outfit, and sister-in-law of Maoist leader Kishenji, who was killed in an encounter in West Bengal. Tarakka is the first woman Maoist from Gadchiroli who joined the Maoist organization in 1983.

What did CM Fadnavis say?

During his visit, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the state is moving towards becoming free from Naxalism. Naxalites are surrendering before the police and new people are not joining the Naxalite organization. He welcomed the move by top Naxalite cadres to lay down their arms and surrender. CM Fadnavis claimed that Naxalite influence is decreasing in remote areas of Gadchiroli. The government will make Gadchiroli the first district in Maharashtra where the influence of Naxalites will end. Gadchiroli is usually called the last district of Maharashtra as it is located on the Chhattisgarh border on the eastern border of the state.
