Kathmandu, 27 August (HS). 176 Nepali citizens are stranded in Brazil after being trapped in the clutches of human traffickers in the name of illegally going to America. The Nepali Embassy in Brazil has informed that the Department of Transit has taken control of 176 Nepali citizens in the transit area of São Paulo Airport in Brazil. The embassy said that everyone is safe and necessary humanitarian assistance is being provided.
Embassy officials said in a report sent to the Kathmandu Foreign Ministry that a group of human traffickers had taken 176 Nepali nationals to South American countries, including Brazil, and were being released there to allow them to enter the US illegally.
Recently, Brazil has implemented a rule to allow passport holders of some countries including Nepal to enter Brazil. According to this new rule, no one will be allowed to enter Brazil without a permit from another country.
The Nepalese Embassy in Brazil has informed that Nepalese citizens cannot fly directly to their destination country via Brazil without a third country visa. Otherwise they will be sent back from the airport. The Nepalese Embassy has also made it clear that Nepalese citizens will not be recognized as refugees at the airport.
