Amritsar: The Punjab Police has now become active to remove the farmers who have been staging a sit -in on the Shambhu border between Punjab and Haryana. Punjab Police detained farmer leaders Jagjit Dallewal and Saravan Singh Pandher. About 200 farmers trying to march on Khanauri and Shambhu border were also detained. At present, three thousand police personnel have been deployed on both borders to prevent farmers from going to Delhi and remove them from the protest site.
Around 200 farmers, who were going to march on Khanauri border, were detained by the police, while several leaders are also being investigated there. Meanwhile, there are about 300 farmers present on the Shambhu border and an attempt is being made to take them into custody. Meanwhile, internet services have been suspended around Sangrur and Patiala as well as Khanauri border due to again clash between farmers and police. Internet services have also been suspended in some areas of Punjab.
In February last year, thousands of farmers from Punjab left for Delhi on the pending demands, including making laws for support price, but the Haryana Police stopped them at cement block and fort Dharbi on Shambhu and Khanouri border. During this time a lot of tear gas was released on the farmers. After which the farmers have sat on the dharna there. Now the Punjab government has also joined the eviction of these farmers. The Punjab Police has recently dropped farmers’ tents with the help of JCB. While many people have been detained and put in jail.
Amid this situation, former Punjab Chief Minister and Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi said that farmers are being attacked under a conspiracy. The government has blocked the road, not the farmers. Farmers want to come to Delhi, the police have blocked them to stop them. Meanwhile, SSP Nanak Singh of Patiala said that farmers had been protesting on the Shambhu border for a long time. After giving them a proper warning, we removed them from the performance site. On the other hand, as soon as the police removed the farmers, other farmers immediately set out to reach the Khanouri and Shambhu border, causing a large scale conflict between the farmers and the police in this area. Earlier, there was a meeting between farmer leaders and representatives of the central government in Chandigarh, but no solution could be found. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan also participated in the central government delegation, now there will be another meeting on this issue on 4 May.
