The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs said that this increase in salary, daily allowances and pension of former MPs will be applicable from April 1, 2023. These changes have been made using the powers provided by Members of Parliament Salary, Allow and Pension Act, 1954 and are based on the cost inflation index specified in the Income Tax Act, 1961. Current MPs, including salary, constituency and office allowances, will now get a total salary of Rs 2,54,000 per month. The salary of MPs increases every five years
Let us tell you that the salary of MPs was last increased in the year 2018. At that time the salary of MPs was increased to Rs 1,00,000. In 2018, former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley proposed a law to automatically amend the salary of MPs according to inflation every 5 years. MPs in India get many types of allowances and facilities along with salary. In addition to salary, MPs get Rs 70,000 per month as constituency allowance and Rs 60,000 per month as office allowance.
