Moscow/Kyiv: For the first time in the Russia-Ukraine war that has been going on for three years, there has been a positive phase. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a 30 -hour temporary ceasefire before Easter, which will bring some peace to war -torn countries. More than 500 prisoners were released mutually released under this ceasefire, making it important at the human level as well.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said in an official statement that Putin announced a ceasefire at a meeting in Kremlin on Saturday. It was clarified that the Russian Army would not conduct any military operations for a total of 30 hours from 6 pm on 19 April to midnight of 21 April. Putin said that there were human objectives behind this decision.
However, there has been no official response from Ukraine on this ceasefire. On the other hand, Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelanski has accused Russia of attacking before a ceasefire. Zelansky said “at 5:15 pm on the eve of Easter, Russia attacked Kharkiv with an Iskandar cruise missile, indicating that the ceasefire was only a formal announcement.
During this ceasefire, the two countries released a total of 492 warfare (246 + 246) mutually released due to the mediation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In particular, 32 injured Ukrainian soldiers and 15 injured Russian soldiers were released. Zelancesi expressed satisfaction over the release of the prisoners. “A total of 4,522 Ukrainian soldiers and citizens have been freed from Russian occupation in the last three years,” he said. He thanked the international community and human organizations for this.
Meanwhile, former US President Donald Trump also proposed a 30 -day ceasefire on Easter, but it failed due to no consensus between the two countries. Earlier too, Russia announced a ceasefire on the occasion of Christmas in January 2023, but in reality both sides continue to continue hostile activities. President Putin directed the army to be prepared to respond to any enemy’s inflammatory action, which means that the ceasefire is only one -sided and is based on the terms of Russia.
A little peace, but still incomplete promises
Although the two countries maintained human spirit by releasing the prisoners during the ceasefire, the end of the war is still unclear. On the one hand, the ceasefire and the missile attacks on the other side show that peace is still far away, but there is a ray of hope.
