India has approved military procurement of more than Rs 54,000 crore to further strengthen its defense capabilities. The decision includes the purchase of engine for air attack warning and control aircraft system (AEW & C), Torpedo and T-90 tanks.
This decision was approved in the Defense Procurement Council (DAC) meeting chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. This decision has been taken under the initiative to celebrate 2025 as the Defense Reform Year, making the purchase process more sharp, effective and efficient.
Earlier, the Cabinet Committee (CCS) on security had also approved the purchase of 307 indigenous cannons and toting vehicles at a cost of Rs 7,000 crore. The Ministry of Defense said that the initial approval (AON) given by DAC is the first step towards purchasing military equipment.
Air Force capacity will increase
The acquisition of the AEW & C system is very important for the Indian Air Force, as this system will be helpful in increasing the fighter capacity of the Air Force. In 2017, the Air Force included the indigenous AEW & C system on Brazil’s Embreier-145 jet, increasing the ability to detect enemy aircraft, missiles and drones.
future plan
The Indian Air Force is planning to include six new ‘Eye MK-1A’ AEW & C system in its fleet in the coming time. Also, six developed by DRDO and the AEW & C system is planned to be installed on Airbus A321 aircraft.
This military procurement will increase India’s defense power significantly and will further strengthen the country’s security.
