6.69 lakh SIM cards blocked to stop cyber crime

Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar has said in a statement that the Central Government has so far blocked 6.69 lakh SIM cards and 1.32 lakh International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI), showing a tough stance against cyber criminals.
Pradhan said the government and telecom service providers (TPS) have jointly developed a system that identifies and blocks international fake calls.

These calls appear to be made from India using Indian mobile numbers but are actually made by cyber criminals from abroad.

Detainee Sanjay Kumar said that international fake calls were recently used in cases like fake digital arrest, FedEx scam and fraud in the name of government officials.

Telecom companies have been instructed to block such calls immediately. Pradhan said that till November 15, 2024, based on the police report, 6.69 lakh fake SIM cards and 1.32 lakh IMEI numbers have been blocked.

Under the Financial Cyber ​​Fraud Reporting and Management System launched in 2021, more than 9.94 lakh complaints have been processed so far and an amount of Rs 3441 crore has been saved from fraud.
