655 Duplicate Voters found in Darbhanga, BJP MLA Raises Questions on Election Commission, Commission Gives Clarification

Post

News India Live, Digital Desk: In Bihar, a new controversy has arisen over the voter list of Darbhanga Graduate and Teachers constituencies. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Legislative Council Member (MLC) Sanjeev Sarang has objected to the Election Commission of including 655 duplicate voters in the voter list. He also pointed to the name of many people in the name of the same father, which raised questions on the transparency of the list.

Giving clarification on these allegations, the Election Commission said that under the provisions of Election Rules 1960, the amendment work of the voter list is a Multi-STAGE process. It is related to including the work, raising objections and revising. The Commission said that some qualifications have been fixed to become voters and in these electoral areas, a person can become a voter in only one place. According to the Commission, there are many applications in which individuals get their names in both graduate and teacher categories, which leads to duplicate entries.

The Election Commission also clarified that the person who applies to become voters for these electoral areas, it is mandatory to give an affidavit that his name is not connected anywhere else. The Commission says that in the same way there are some voters who were earlier in an assembly, but they have shifted NOW and have applied for registration as voters in other electoral areas. The Commission said that in the applications received from various sources, the names of such voters come to two places.

However, the Election Commission also assured that the process of investigation is going on and the Election Department will not accept any fake voter. In the end, when the voter list is released, then the names of all the 655 duplicate voters will be removed from the list which will be found registered or against whom there will be objections against them. Emphasizing transparency, the Election Commission said that they are committed to complete this entire process according to the rules and fairly. With this clarification, the Commission has tried to ensure that the voter list finally displays the names of qualified and valid voters.
