News India Live, Digital Desk: A student of Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Council (UPMSP) has proved that if the intentions are strong then even the biggest wall of the system can be bent. A student had to fight a legal battle for 9 months to get his 10th exam answer sheet, after which now his hard work has paid off.
What was the whole controversy?
This matter is related to the high school examination of UP Board. The student had got much less marks than expected after the examination. When the student approached the board for scrutiny and photocopy of his copies, the board rejected his demand citing technicalities and rules.
High Court’s intervention and student’s struggle
Instead of being disappointed, the student took the legal route and the matter reached Allahabad High Court. Main stages of student’s struggle:
9 months wait: The student did not give up and presented his argument on every date.
RTI and Legal Rights: The student had demanded to see his copy under the Right to Information (RTI) and fundamental rights of the student.
Board Pull: During the hearing, the court made strong remarks on the functioning of the board and issued an order to show the student his answer sheet.
Why is this decision important for students?
Often students remain silent when there are irregularities in results, but this decision will become a ‘precedent’:
Victory of transparency: Now the board will not be able to suppress copies to hide its mistakes.
Self-confidence: This case teaches that students should be conscious of their marks.
System Improvements: After the strict stance of the court, it is expected that the UP Board will make its scrutiny process more accessible and student-friendly.
