Raipur, March 5 (HS). In the state, road accidents have decreased by 9 percent in January 2024 and deaths by 07 percent in comparison to January 2023. Similarly, 42,160 challans were issued on vehicles driven without fitness and an amount of approximately Rs 10 crore was recovered from 2372 challans issued through ANPR cameras. This information was given in the Road Safety and Enforcement Workshop organized at Police Transit in the capital Raipur on Tuesday.
This workshop was organized for the enforcement officers of the State Police and Transport Department in coordination with the Ministry of Road Transport Highways, Government of India, Asian Institute of Transport Development, inter-departmental lead agency Road Safety and Traffic Police Chhattisgarh.
In the inaugural address of the workshop based on the sensitive topic of road safety, former Special Commissioner of Police New Delhi, former Director General of Police Andaman Satyendra Garg gave important information regarding the reduction in road accident death rate due to special efforts made in Delhi.
Chairman of Inter-Departmental Lead Agency Road Safety Chhattisgarh, Sanjay Sharma told about the road safety scenario of the state, efforts made by various departments of the government and future plans that 2291 public awareness programs were organized in the state in January this year. Identification of 103 new blackspots, nine truck lay-bys, 246 bus lay-bys, 02 driver rest areas, road safety training of 150 engineers, 42,160 challans on vehicles driven without fitness passing through toll points, about 10 from 2372 challans from ANPR cameras. An amount of Rs. crore, 35 bridges, 03 automated testing centers have been established.
He said that in January 2024, there has been a 9 percent reduction in road accidents, 07 percent reduction in deaths and 6 percent reduction in injuries. Chhattisgarh ranks 12th in the country in road accidents and deaths. Raipur district ranks 8th in the entire country in accident deaths. More caution is required due to highest number of accidents between 5 pm to 9 pm. 34 percent accidents are occurring in urban areas and 66 percent in rural areas. Most road accidents occur due to two-wheelers. 06 Trauma Centers and 08 Trauma Stabilization Centers are approved in the state. Dial 112 provided prompt response/assistance to approximately 5.5 lakh reports of road accidents and medical ambulance.
On this occasion, former Deputy Commissioner, Delhi Transport Department, Shri Anil Chikara gave detailed information on the subject of Motor Vehicle Act, Central Motor Vehicle Rules, Techno Reform in Transport Related to Road Safety.
Joint Director ITDR Raipur Amit Gupta told about the working system of the Institute of Driving and Traffic Research, and also informed that about 18 thousand drivers and 700 traffic police officers were trained in the institute. Road accidents can be reduced after effective training through automated driving testing tracks and simulators.
