The firing lasted for 10 minutes.

The Jallianwala Bagh massacre is a very cruel and tragic event of the Indian freedom struggle. The incident took place on 13 April 1919 at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar on the day of Vaisakhi, when the British General Dyer opened fire on thousands of unarmed and peaceful protesters present there without warning. The meeting was being held in protest against the Rowlatt Act, under which people could be sent to jail without prosecution. The firing continued for about ten minutes, killing hundreds of people and injured thousands. Although the British government admitted that 379 people were killed, the actual number was much more than that. This massacre shook the entire country and intensified the freedom struggle. The Jallianwala Bagh massacre became a symbol of unwavering resolve for the confidence, sacrifice and freedom of the Indian people.
