Jaipur, September 20 (HS). The Department of Information Technology and Communication has issued an advisory regarding UPI phishing fraud and online job fraud to increase awareness among the general public regarding cyber security and cyber hygiene.
Joint Secretary of Home Department, Pooja Parth said that a letter has been written to the Director General of Police, Cyber Crime, SCRB and Technical Services to take necessary action in this regard.
He said that on the pretext of helping in banking related issues, fraudsters ask victims to forward links to their registered mobile numbers and gain access to the victim's bank accounts. Fraudsters can also commit fraud by asking to share OTP on the pretext of updating KYC, Aadhaar. Do not share OTP or link with anyone claiming to be a bank official. People calling customer care numbers obtained from Google search to get refund etc. can become victims of such fraud.
Apart from this, cyber criminals use the data of users who share their data on various websites or social media platforms in search of jobs and demand registration and service charges in the name of getting a good job. To avoid such fraud, submit your application only on registered websites. Do not make any advance payment for the job.

Avoid clicking on links unless they are from a trusted source. If you receive a text from a number you do not recognize, read it carefully.
If you think you have received a smishing text message, do not respond to it. Never give out personal or sensitive information to someone or an unsecured site you do not know. Always be suspicious if the message/call has a sense of urgency. Be cautious and pay attention during phone calls. Verify the identity of those asking for information in person or over the phone. Do not share your bank account details, personal information, OTP, etc. over phone calls. Remember that banks never ask for card numbers/CVV numbers/OTPs.
