In the Elite Group A match of Ranji Trophy being played between Mumbai and Jammu and Kashmir, once again a controversy arose regarding the standard of umpiring in domestic cricket. An interesting development came to light in this match on Friday, when Mumbai batsman Ajinkya Rahane was called back from the dressing room to play five minutes after being given out. The third umpire told that the bowler had bowled a no ball.
This incident happened in the 25th over of Mumbai’s second innings. Jammu and Kashmir’s Omar Nazir dismissed Rahane for the first time. However, drama started after Rahane was out. Rahane returned to the dressing room, and Shardul Thakur came to the crease as the next batsman, but the umpire did not check the no ball.
In fact, after Rahane was out, the replays took some time to load. When the third umpire confirmed that the bowler had crossed the line, the on-field umpire asked Thakur to step back and called Rahane to play again. When Rahane returned to the crease, the umpire asked him to wait saying that a no-ball check was taking place, but the Mumbai captain could not hear this.
