The Indian team lost in the third match of the five -match T20 series against England. After two consecutive wins, the Indian team did not perform as expected in Rajkot. After this defeat, former Indian cricketer Akash Chopra has expressed his concerns about team selection.
Chopra believes that India did not use its team’s depth correctly, due to which there was no continuity in the performance. Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Verma played an important role in the first two matches, while in the third match, Varun Chakraborty did wonders in bowling with five wickets. However, Chopra is worried that Washington Sundar was not used properly, which was part of the playing XI in the last two matches but got very little opportunity in bowling.
Chopra said, “You are saying that you want four spinners. I agree, but are you getting 16 overs of spin? You bowled only one over from Washington. It is strange to keep a player in the team for just one over. ”
He further said, “I don’t think we are choosing the right team. Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya were playing first, then played Mohammed Shami. It is not that there is no other fast bowler in the team, but you are not trying to play any fast bowler. ”
These comments by Chopra can give rise to an important discussion among Indian cricket fans, as the team’s selection policy and strategy are being questioned.
