Akhilesh Yadav Slams Election Commission, Alleges It Considers Only BJP Workers as Indian Citizens

LUCKNOW : In a fierce political offensive, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has launched a stinging attack on the Election Commission of India, accusing the constitutional poll body of acting with deep-seated institutional bias. The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister alleged that the Commission increasingly operates under the assumption that only members and supporters of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party hold the rightful status of Indian citizenship, while systematically disregarding the rights, concerns, and votes of opposition electors and ordinary citizens.

Allegations of Institutional Neutrality Under Scrutiny

Speaking from the Samajwadi Party headquarters in Lucknow, Yadav raised grave questions regarding the independence and accountability of India’s autonomous electoral watchdog. He asserted that an institution tasked with safeguarding the sanctity of universal adult suffrage appears to be applying differential standards during election oversight, electoral roll revisions, and complaint redressal. According to Yadav, non-BJP voters across key constituencies feel increasingly disenfranchised, facing unaddressed grievances regarding missing names, procedural irregularities, and administrative high-handedness during polling exercises.

Electoral Disenfranchisement and the Fight for Democracy

The Samajwadi Party president framed the issue as an urgent constitutional crisis that extends far beyond regular partisan politics. He emphasized that equating citizenship or loyalty to one political outfit directly strikes at the bedrock of India’s sovereign, democratic republic. The Samajwadi leadership maintained that when an election body faces recurring credibility questions, the public’s intrinsic trust in democratic mandates erodes. Yadav reiterated his party’s resolve to build a coordinated ground-level legal and civic mechanism to counter arbitrary deletions from voter lists and ensure every citizen’s constitutional right to vote remains intact.
