US President Donald Trump has once again claimed that his personal intervention ended enmity between India and Pakistan after Operation Sindoor in May 2025. He also claimed that he believes that four or five jets were killed during the conflict. The second week this week, these comments are contrary to the continuous refusal of any American mediation by India.
Referring to the fresh tension increased after the Pahalgam attack on 22 April 2025, President Trump said, “We have ended many wars.” And these were big wars. India and Pakistan were entangled in it, and they were growing back and forth, and it was getting older, and we resolved it through trade. He again reiterated his argument that the US had conducted a ceasefire by threatening to cancel the trade agreement in the event of the firing not being closed across the border.
Trump also guessed the air aspect of war: in fact, the aircraft was being killed by the sky. Five, five, four or five, but I believe that five jets were actually killed, although they did not say which country aircraft were being mentioned.
India rejected the claims of mediation
Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has constantly rejected any idea of American intervention in reducing India-Pakistan tension. Earlier this month, in an interview to Newsweek, Jaishankar explained in detail about this diplomatic conversation.
He recalled the conversation between US Vice President JD Vance and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the night of 9 May 2025. Jaishankar said, I can assure you that I was present in the room when on the evening of May 9, Vice President Vance called Prime Minister Modi and told him that Pakistan is going to make a big attack on India … We did not listen to some things, and the Prime Minister had no worry about what Pakistan would do.
Jaishankar further said, on the contrary, he suggested that we suggested that the Indian Foreign Minister called US Secretary of State Marco Rubio the next morning, during which Rubio said that Pakistani is ready for talks.
Although Islamabad officially thanked President Trump for his mediation, New Delhi stresses that the solution of the conflict, under which India launched the operation vermilion against the Pahalgam attack, was the result of direct bilateral military and diplomatic efforts without any mediation.
