Nitin Gadkari’s statement: US tariff policy new opportunity to export to India

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Thursday that America’s new tariff policy has opened the doors of new opportunities in global exports for India. He said that India has got an important opportunity to strengthen its export capabilities under current global conditions. According to Gadkari, India can become an alternative to China in major markets like America and Europe amid changes in global business equations.

Emphasis on low logistics cost

Gadkari also stated that the cost of logistics in India is still between 14 and 16 percent, while in China it is only 8 percent. This difference weakens India’s export competition. The government is developing logistics parks, multimodal transport networks and other necessary infrastructure across the country to reduce this difference.

Inspection of Pithampur logistics park

Gadkari inspected the construction work of the first phase of the Multimodal Logistics Park being built in the Pithampur industrial area near Indore. The estimated cost of this project is ₹ 1,200 crore and is spread over an area of 255 acres. The work of the first phase is expected to be completed in about one and a half to two years. Gadkari said that this park will not only speed up import-export, but will also reduce the logistics cost and strengthen the local economy.

Railway connectivity and direct connection with port

Gadkari also laid the foundation stone of the railway siding to be constructed in this park, which is located about 7 kilometers from Sagaur railway station. Through this connectivity, the products of farmers and industries will be able to deliver the ports like JNPT in Mumbai, Kandla in Gujarat and Mundra in less time and cost. He described it in this way, “As if the Samudra of Mumbai has come to Pithampur.” There will also be a container testing facility in the park, so that the goods can be sent directly to the ports.

Transport plan through waterways

Gadkari also informed that the possibilities of transporting waterways through Narmada and other rivers are being searched. This will not only reduce the cost, but will also promote employment and economic activities in Madhya Pradesh.

The indication from this visit of Gadkari and his statements is clear that the Government of India is making serious efforts to take forward the country in global competition by strengthening the export as well as strengthening the infrastructure.

Trade: 22,469 and 22,589 are important resistance levels that should be kept in mind
