Farmers of Gujarat: The Gujarat government has made a significant announcement to buy 2 lakh metric tonnes of wheat from the entire state including Rajkot on the support price under the “Ravi Marketing Season 2025-26” with the objective of getting the state’s farmers a fair price for their produce. This purchase will be made by Gujarat State Civil Supplies Corporation Limited. This step has been taken to strengthen the economic condition of farmers and give them appropriate compensation.
Union Consumer Protection, Food and Public Distribution Minister Nimuben Bambhania held a virtual meeting in this regard with officials of all the districts of Gujarat with Rajkot Collectorate. The meeting reviewed the preparations for wheat procurement at the support price. Meanwhile, the minister said that money will be deposited in their accounts within 48 hours of handing over their wheat to the center. This rapid payment process will prove to be a big relief for the farmers.
This time there is a possibility of significant increase in wheat production in the state. It is estimated that about 42 lakh metric tonnes of wheat will be produced in the state. Keeping this large -scale production in mind, the government has set a target of purchasing 2 lakh metric tonnes of wheat. After this purchase, the government will use this wheat to distribute the needy under the ration system, so that the poor can get food grains at the local level.
Wheat will be procured at the support price of Rs 490 per mind, which is equal to Rs 2,425 per quintal (one quintal = 100 kg, and a mind = 20 kg). This price has been set to provide proper compensation to the farmers for their produce. For this purchase, 218 procurement centers have been set up across the state, which was inaugurated today i.e. on 24 March 2025 by Minister Mrs. Nimuben Bambhania from Paddar in Rajkot district. On the very first day, 250 quintals of wheat were purchased at Paddhari Center.
In addition, farmers have been provided online registration facility to make the procurement process easier and transparent. Registered farmers will be informed to procure through SMS. At the time of procurement, farmers are mandatory to bring their Aadhaar card or identity cards and the procurement process will be completed only through biometric authentication. The government is trying to ensure that this scheme is financially beneficial for the farmers.
