News India Live, Digital Desk: In the dark of night or early in the morning, throwing a packet of garbage on the side of the road and leaving… many of us either do it ourselves or see others doing it. We thought no one saw, but now be careful! If you are in the ‘Silicon Valley of India’ i.e. Bengaluru, then it is possible that the next day before the milkman, the Municipal Corporation’s vehicle will be standing at your door carrying your own thrown garbage as a ‘gift’.

Yes, you heard it right! Fed up with the problem of filth and illegal dumping of garbage in the city, the Bruhat Bengaluru Municipal Corporation (BBMP) has taken a unique and strict step, which is being discussed across the country. The name of this unique initiative is ‘Return Gift’.

What is this ‘Return Gift’ initiative?

Under this initiative, BBMP teams are identifying people who run away from their vehicles in the dark of night or in broad daylight by throwing garbage on roads, vacant plots or on the banks of lakes.

So how does this whole system work?

  • Identification of ‘Black Spots’: First of all, those places are identified where most garbage is thrown.
  • Deploying CCTV and marshals: High-resolution CCTV cameras have now been installed at these ‘black spots’ and marshals have been deployed, who conduct 24-hour surveillance.
  • Caught the culprit: As soon as a person is caught throwing garbage, his vehicle number is noted down or his photograph is taken.
  • ‘Gift’ packing: After this, BBMP employees ‘lovingly’ pack the discarded garbage into a packet.
  • ‘Special Delivery’ at home: Then with the help of RTO (regional transport office) the address of the owner is extracted from the vehicle number and the next day this ‘return gift’ is delivered directly to his home.

Not just a gift, but also a fine!

This ‘gift’ does not come alone. Comes with it fitted to spread dirt heavy fines And a stern warning not to do so in future.

Why was this strict step needed?

BBMP officials say that they were tired of appealing to people for years. People neither separate wet and dry waste nor give it to the door-to-door garbage collection vehicle. Instead they take the easy way out and pollute the city. When the habit did not improve even after repeated fines, this psychological method had to be adopted.

Its purpose is not just to collect fines, but also to educate the people. feeling embarrassed in public We have to make them think a hundred times before making such a mistake again.

This unique initiative is a lesson for all of us. Cleanliness is not the responsibility of just the government or the municipal corporation, but it is the collective responsibility of all of us. Who knows, this ‘return gift’ that started from Bengaluru may reach your city too tomorrow.
