Rampur/Sitapur: The news of the Samajwadi Party’s strongman and the most popular face of Rampur’s politics, Azam Khan, has finally been reported to be a great relief. Azam Khan, who has been in Jail of Sitapur for the last 23 months, will be released at 8 am tomorrow. The jail administration has received an order (Parvana) for his release and all the preparations have been completed.
This release has been possible after the bail received from the Allahabad High Court, but the story behind this bail is also quite interesting.
What was the case that brought Azam to jail?
The whole matter is related to possession on an old ‘quality bar’ in Rampur. The story begins from the year 2014, but the FIR was registered in this case after 5 years, ie in 2019. Surprisingly, when the FIR was registered, Azam Khan was not named in it, but his wife and son were made accused.
A big turn in the story came when in 2024, ie even after 5 years of FIR, the police also added Azam Khan’s name in the case and made him an accused during the investigation. Due to this case, he was arrested and was sent to Sitapur Jail.
Just a question… and got bail
When the lower court of Rampur dismissed Azam Khan’s bail petition, he approached the Allahabad High Court. Azam Khan’s lawyers just made a straight and strong argument in the High Court: “If the matter is of 2014 and FIR took place in 2019, then in 2024, ie after 5 years more, why was Azam Khan’s name added to this case? Why did there be so much delay in adding the name?”
Government lawyers could not give any concrete and satisfactory answer to this. The court also found this argument strong and on this basis, Azam Khan’s bail was approved.
Now after this bail, 23 months long wait is ending and tomorrow morning, this veteran leader of Samajwadi Party will once again take steps in the world out of jail.
