At the root of this is a new rule of the government. The government has implemented a ‘Quality Control Order’ (QCO) to maintain quality. Under this rule, every aluminum can used in India BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) It is important to have a certification i.e. a stamp of quality, whether the can is made in India or has come from abroad.

Now the problem is stuck here. Not enough cans are produced in India to meet everyone’s needs, so companies are largely dependent on cans coming from abroad. But, most of the foreign suppliers have not yet taken this BIS certification.

outcome? The import trade of cans coming from abroad has almost come to a standstill and there is a huge shortage of cans in the country.

What do companies want now?

The beer industry is on a tear as the period from Diwali to Christmas and New Year is their biggest sales season. If the cans are not found, they will suffer a loss of thousands of crores.

Therefore, all the major beer manufacturing companies have come together to appeal to the government. He has written a letter to the Ministry of Industry (DPIIT) saying, “Sir, please give us an exemption of one year from this rule for the time being.”

Their demand is that they should be allowed to import cans without BIS certification for one year. In this one year, foreign suppliers will also complete the process of obtaining certification and there will be no further problems.

Now the ball is in the government’s court. If the government does not provide this relief, then this time the can of your favorite beer may disappear from the menu at parties.
