Cricket Test Aus Ind 1 17359002

Australian all-rounder Beau Webster, who is playing in his debut Test against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground, believes that facing Indian captain and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is the biggest challenge for him and his team. Webster said that despite India being bowled out for 185 runs in the first innings, Bumrah’s attack could prove to be a major hurdle for the Australian batsmen.

At the end of the day, Australia lost 1 wicket for 9 runs in their first innings. Jasprit Bumrah sent opener Usman Khawaja to the pavilion on the last ball of the day.

Webster praised Bumrah

Webster said in the post-game press conference:

  • “There is a way to bat on this wicket, but playing against a world class bowler like Jasprit Bumrah is quite challenging.”
  • “Bumrah’s line and length are very accurate. When the pitch favors the bowlers, it becomes even more difficult to face them.”

Fast bowlers are getting help from the pitch

Webster admitted that the Sydney pitch suited fast bowlers. He said:

  • “The grass on the pitch kept the ball looking new for a long time. “However, it is not a completely runaway pitch.”
  • “Our plan was to bowl in such a way that the batsmen are forced to use their steps.”

Webster praised his fellow bowler Scott Boland, saying:

  • “Scotty showed why he is a world class bowler. “He bowled brilliantly, and that helped us restrict India to less than 200.”

Jadeja and Pant’s partnership increased the problems

Webster pointed out that despite the conditions being favorable for fast bowlers, there were certain moments when taking wickets proved challenging.

  • “The ball was swinging continuously, but many times the ball coming off the edge of the bat could not get the wicket.”
  • Referring to the partnership of Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant, he said:
    • “The pair scored runs in difficult conditions and troubled us a lot.”

Made debut memorable by taking catch of Virat

In his debut match, Beau Webster made it special by taking the catch of Indian batting legend Virat Kohli.

  • Catch details:
    • Webster took a brilliant catch of Kohli at third slip off Scott Boland.
    • Earlier, he had also caught Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal off the ball of Boland.
  • Webster said:
    • “It was great to watch Scotty bowl from third slip. He was bowling challenging bowling to both right and left handed batsmen.”
    • “Boland is capable of bowling with the same strength again the next day after bowling long spells.”
