News India Live, Digital Desk: The troubles of senior Congress leader and media department chairman Pawan Kheda have increased. The Supreme Court has clearly refused to cancel the FIR registered against him in Assam. The case was filed by Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. After this decision of the court, the way has been cleared for legal proceedings against Kheda under criminal sections.
Supreme Court refused to give relief
A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and PB Varale heard Pawan Khera’s plea seeking quashing of the case registered by the Assam Police. The top court said that it does not want to interfere in the matter and has given Kheda the freedom to present his views in the lower court. Let us tell you that a case has been registered against Kheda under various serious sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS).
What is the whole matter?
The controversy started when Pawan Kheda allegedly made fun of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name during a press conference. After this, many complaints were filed against him in Assam and Uttar Pradesh. Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, wife of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, had also filed a case against him on defamation and other criminal charges. Earlier, the Supreme Court had ordered to club different FIRs registered across the country and transfer them to Assam.
Proceedings will begin under BNS sections
After this latest stand of the Supreme Court, Assam Police is now free to file a charge sheet in the case and carry forward the legal process. Legal experts believe that after the Supreme Court rejected the petition, Kheda may now have to appear in the concerned court of Assam and apply for regular bail.
Political war intensifies between Congress and BJP
After this decision of the Supreme Court, political rhetoric has also intensified. Assam BJP has called it a victory of law, while Congress has called it an attack on freedom of expression. It is noteworthy that Pawan Kheda was arrested in this case last year after being deboarded from the plane at Delhi Airport, after which he was granted interim bail. Now preparations are on to prosecute them regularly.
