Big change after ten years
The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has once again approved the one-year B.Ed course. This course, which was closed in 2014, will be restarted with new conditions from 2025. Along with this decision, other important decisions were also taken in the recent meeting of the Governing Body of NCTE.

New terms and eligibility
The one-year B.Ed course under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 will be available only to those students who:

  1. Must have completed four-year bachelor’s degree (integrated program).
  2. Or have obtained postgraduate degree.

This course will be applicable from 2025 and will be operated under the new rules Regulation 2025 replacing the Regulation 2014.

Extension of four year B.Ed course

Presently the four-year Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) is running in 64 institutions in the country. This course is also available in four institutes of Bihar. Now specialized streams will be added under ITEP, like:

  • Yoga Education
  • physical education
  • Sanskrit
  • Performing Arts

ITEP is a dual integrated program in which students can pursue BA-B.Ed, B.Com-B.Ed or B.Sc-B.Ed.

End of two year B.Ed course

  • NCTE has stopped recognizing the two-year B.Ed course from 2024.
  • There is a plan to eliminate it completely by 2030.
  • A new four-year integrated course will be implemented in its place.

B.Ed status in Bihar

  • About 350 B.Ed colleges are running in Bihar.
  • The fees for a two-year B.Ed course ranges from Rs 1.5 to Rs 2 lakh.
  • With the introduction of one-year B.Ed, the fee burden of students will reduce.
  • Fees in government colleges are already low.

Objective of new course
The aim of this change is to improve the quality in teacher education and make it more affordable and effective. Through new policies, efforts are being made to make the process of becoming a teacher easier, cheaper and more professional.
