News India Live, Digital Desk: A big case of irregularities has come up under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana in Uttar Pradesh. About 28,000 such beneficiaries have been found in Prayagraj district, who were taking advantage of government money despite being ineligible for this scheme. This is a serious issue, as it highlights the misuse of government schemes and lack of transparency. Now the administration is preparing to recover from all these ineligible beneficiaries.
What is the matter?
The objective of the Central Government’s PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana is to provide direct financial assistance to small and marginal farmers. Under this scheme, financial assistance of Rs 6000 is given to eligible farmers every year in three equal installments. But after an audit and verification in Prayagraj, the Department of Agriculture has come to know that around 28,000 people, who do not meet the criteria set for this scheme, were illegally taking this benefit. These ineligible beneficiaries either pay income tax, or they are government employees, or they should not have got the benefit of this scheme due to any other reason.
Action of Prayagraj Administration:
The agriculture department and administration of the district have prepared a list of all these ineligible beneficiaries. Now the amount taken from all these people will be recovered so far. The process of this recovery will start soon and there can be legal action on those who have taken advantage of this scheme by deliberately wrong information.
Reason behind this irregularity:
- Giving incorrect information: Many beneficiaries gave wrong or incomplete information regarding their eligibility at the time of initial application.
- Lack of transparency in the process: There were some shortcomings in the application and verification process, due to which ineligible people could take advantage of the scheme.
- Combination of employees: In some cases the possibility of collusion of government employees also cannot be ruled out.
- Benefits in the name of dead persons: Many times there are also cases where money has been taken in the name of dead persons.
Such incidents not only misuse the government’s funds, but also reduce the real benefits given to the eligible farmers. The recovery and strict action by the administration is important to ensure that there are no such irregularities in the future and the benefits of government schemes can reach the right beneficiaries only.
