Ration Distribution Update: If you live in Uttar Pradesh and take food grains through ration card, then this news is directly related to you. The government has made a major change in the way of distributing ration, which is coming into effect from February 2026. Now the amount of rice you get in your ration will be slightly less and you will get more wheat.
How much wheat and how much rice will we get now?
For a long time, rice was being distributed in excess at ration shops. But now considering the demand of many people, the government has decided to increase the share of wheat. According to the new rules, some changes will be seen like this:
- For Aam Ration Card (eligible households): If one member of your family gets 5 kg ration, now 3 kg wheat and 2 kg rice Can get. Earlier it used to be the reverse.
- For those with Antyodaya card (poorest families): Now the quantity of wheat will be increased in the families which get 35 kg ration packet. This simply means that now there will be no need to buy more flour from the market for roti.
In which cities will this new rule be applicable?
This change is being made especially in the districts of Western and Central UP, because it is believed that people in these areas prefer to eat roti than rice. Some of these big cities like- Meerut, Agra, Aligarh, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Bareilly, Lucknow and Kanpur Are included.
New instructions given to Kotedars
All government ration shops (kotedars) have been told to collect food grains for February as per the new norms and distribute them to the people. Also, they have been asked to give ration from their machine (e-POS) with complete transparency.
