News India Live, Digital Desk: High Profile Case: The veteran leader of Uttar Pradesh politics Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Azam have got a significant relief from the Supreme Court. The apex court has stayed the ongoing hearing in the lower court in the alleged case of ‘two birth certificates, two PAN cards and two passports’. This is a big relief for the Azam Khan family, who have been fighting a legal battle for the last several years.
The case was registered by a local BJP leader in 2017. It was alleged that Abdullah Azam manipulated his age to contest the assembly elections and presented fake documents related to his educational qualification and date of birth before the Election Commission. It was accused of making two separate birth certificates, keeping two PAN cards and getting two different passports, one of which was built showing less than the age of 18 so that they could not contest elections and the other by showing older age. These allegations also canceled Abdullah Azam’s MLA membership.
Now the Supreme Court has given a temporary relief to Azam Khan and his son by stopping the hearing of the case. This will give them more time and opportunity to carry forward their legal battle and prove their innocence. This case is one of the many legal cases against the Azam Khan family. Over the years, Azam Khan and his family members have faced judicial challenges in many cases including land encroachment, damage to government properties and other criminal allegations. He had to stay in jail for a long time.
This order of the Supreme Court brings a new turn in this high-profile case. It will be seen to see how this postponement (stay) affects their other legal matters and political career in the future.
