Biggest layoff in Amazon from today, jobs of 30,000 employees at stake

New Delhi: A big wave of concern is going to hit Amazon, the world’s largest e-commerce company, from today i.e. Tuesday, October 28. The news is that the company is going to fire about 30,000 of its corporate employees. This will be one of the largest layoffs in Amazon’s history, leaving thousands of employees and their families in shock.

This decision comes as a blow to thousands of employees who have returned to work after the festivals. The company has taken this step to curb its rising expenses and correct the excessive recruitment done during the Corona epidemic.

Why was this big decision taken?

Amazon says that in the last few years, especially during the time of Corona, the company had recruited very rapidly. But now that the circumstances have changed and the demand in the market has reduced, the company wants to balance its operations by reducing its staff.

Although this is not the first time. Amazon has been gradually reducing the number of employees in different departments for the last two years. But this time the figure is the biggest till date.

Amazon had also fired about 27,000 employees at the end of 2022, but this time firing 30,000 people will have a huge impact on the company’s corporate staff. This accounts for about 10% of the company’s total 3.5 lakh corporate employees.

According to reports, the company has made complete preparations for this layoff. Managers of the affected teams were trained on Monday on how to communicate with their employees after the email was sent on Tuesday morning.

Is AI taking away jobs?

Another big reason behind this big layoff Artificial Intelligence (AI) is also being considered. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy had already indicated that the number of managers in the company would be reduced and that due to the increasing use of AI, more jobs could be lost in the future.

A market expert says, “This step by Amazon shows that the company is now succeeding in doing work better and faster with the help of AI in its teams. This is why it is now requiring fewer employees.”

The company is also under pressure to quickly recoup the billions of dollars it has invested in AI, and cutting expenses is a part of this.
