News India Live, Digital Desk: Nowadays we are hearing everywhere that the government has made everything online through ‘Bihar Bhoomi’ portal so that middlemen and fraud can be eliminated. But the latest information that is being received now is shocking. In many districts of Bihar, land tax receipts are being issued offline.
How did this confusion start?
Actually, the government had ordered that now no receipt will be cut manually. All accounts will be digital on the government portal. But reports are coming that in many areas and at lower levels, work is still being done on the old pattern. People are paying the rent for their land and are being given paper slips.
Now the problem is that unless your receipt is updated on the government portal, your dues will not be reduced in the government records. That means you are paying the money, but you may still appear as a debtor in the digital records.
Why is fear troubling the general public?
In Bihar, the root of land disputes are often incomplete documents. People fear that if they take the receipt offline and it is not uploaded on the portal on time, then there may be huge problems in future at the time of mutation or sale of land.
There is contradiction on this issue even among officials. At some places it is being said to be a technical flaw, at others it is being called negligence. But the common man is suffering the most, who is not able to understand whether he should run for the online receipt or this offline paper is enough.
What to do if this has happened to you too?
If you have recently paid your land tax and have only received a paper slip, then be a little cautious.
- Bihar Bhoomi (biharbhumi.bihar.gov.in) Please check your records by visiting the portal.
- If your payment is not showing there, then immediately meet your concerned zonal office or employee and get it updated on the portal.
Land matters are sensitive, so in the digital age, matching of paper as well as online records is very important for the security of your property.
What is your opinion on this? Do you also think that despite being completely digital, such ‘backdoor’ entries are exposing the shortcomings of the government system?
