Mumbai:The Mumbai Police has registered an FIR against the director of Rapido for illegally running bike taxi services through its app. FIR was lodged at Amboli police station after a complaint received from the Regional Transport Commissioner’s Office.
Rapido was working without permission
Harshal Sasse, vehicle supervision officer of the Regional Transport Commissioner Office, said in the complaint, illegal transport services were being run in the city through the Rapido app. App operators did not take permission from the government to drive their vehicles in the city and were cheating passengers.
According to the complaint, under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, the app was required to get permission from the concerned government department. However, Rapido failed to obtain such permission. Legal action can be taken against the person if driving without permission.
No check for the background of drivers
The complaint also expressed serious concerns about the safety of passengers, stating that Rapido failed to check the background and character of its drivers. The FIR states, “Neither the background of the drivers nor their character was examined, nor proper security measures were taken, which threatened the safety of women passengers.”
A case has been registered under the disobedience of valid orders issued by Section 223 public servants of the Indian Justice Code BNS, 318 (4) (fraud) and related sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. The FIR was lodged on the complaint of 41 -year -old Harshal Sosa, an inspector of Mumbai West RTO at Andheri.
The police have initiated legal action on the basis of these violations, which has strengthened the government’s stand on unlicensed app-based transport operations.
