central government DA hike news 2025 : Just before the festive season, the central government has given a huge gift to crores of central employees and pensioners of the country. Providing relief from rising inflation, the government has approved a historic 11% lump sum increase in Dearness Allowance (DA). This decision has brought smiles on the faces of lakhs of government employees.

How much is DA now?

Earlier the DA rate was fixed at 55% in July 2025. After this bumper increase of 11%, the total DA has now increased to 66%. This is considered to be one of the biggest increases ever. About 48 lakh central employees and 68 lakh pensioners will directly benefit from this.

When will you get the increased money?

These new rates will be considered applicable from July 2025. This means that along with the salary for the month of October, the employees will also get the arrears of July, August and September. That means, a huge amount is going to come into the employees’ account this month.

How much will it affect your salary? (Understand the calculations)

This increase will vary according to the grade pay and basic salary of the employees.

  • Example 1: If the basic salary of an employee is ₹ 18,000, then at the rate of 66% his DA will now be ₹ 11,880.
  • Example 2: If someone’s basic salary is ₹ 35,000, then earlier he used to get ₹ 19,250 DA at the rate of 55%. Now at the rate of 66%, he will get ₹ 23,100 DA, i.e. a direct benefit of ₹ 3,850 every month.

It is estimated that the salary of most employees may increase by ₹ 8,000 to ₹ 15,000. At the same time, the monthly income of pensioners will also see an increase of ₹ 1,000 to ₹ 2,500.

Why did the government take this decision?

This decision of the government has been taken keeping in mind the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and the continuously increasing inflation figures in the country. Its purpose is to maintain the purchasing power of the employees, so that they can easily face inflation.

This decision will put an annual burden of about ₹ 16,000 crore on the government exchequer, but the government believes that this will increase purchasing in the market, which will also give impetus to the economy. In the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this decision has been described as a ‘development-oriented’ step.
