News India Live, Digital Desk: Chandrashekhar Azad looked quite aggressive while discussing the demands for grants on Railway Budget 2026-27. He alleged that the Railways is now becoming only a ‘ride for the rich’ and the poor are forced to wait at the stations.
1. Government cornered on general and sleeper coaches
Chandrashekhar addressed Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav and said:
Coaches’ cuts: “You ran glittering trains like Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat, but reduced general and sleeper coaches from ordinary trains. Today the poor man is forced to travel sitting near the toilet.”
Fare Increase: He alleged that the prices of platform tickets and general tickets have been secretly increased, due to which the burden on daily wage laborers has increased.
2. Key Demands for Nagina Lok Sabha constituency
The MP presented a ‘Charter of Demand’ before the Railway Minister to improve the rail connectivity of his area:
Stay in Nagina: Stoppage of major express trains on Delhi-Lucknow route should be increased at Nagina and Najibabad stations.
New Passenger Train: Direct MEMO train service should be started from Nagina to Haridwar and Dehradun.
Railway Overbridge (ROB): To deal with the problem of jam at the busy gates of the area, immediate approval should be given for the construction of 3 new overbridges.
Station Modernization: Under ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme’, passenger facilities (like lifts and escalators) should be expanded at Nagina station.
Security: CCTV cameras and additional RPF forces should be deployed for women’s safety at small stations.
