News India Live, Digital Desk: The Anti -Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Delhi government has summoned senior leaders of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Manish Sisodia and Satyendra Jain in the alleged classroom construction scam of Rs 2,000 crore.
The branch had registered a case on 30 April and asked Sisodia to appear on 9 June, while Jain has been asked to appear on 6 June.
On April 30, the ACB filed an FIR against the two leaders of corruption related to the construction of 12,748 classes or semi-stable structures. When you were in power in Delhi, Sisodia was in charge of Finance and Education Departments, while Jain was responsible for health, industry, electricity, home affairs, urban development and public works.
According to ACB chief Joint Commissioner Madhur Verma, an FIR has been lodged based on the report of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) Chief Technical Examiner. He said, “The report of the CVC Chief Technical Examiner described several discrepancies in the project and the report was pressed for about three years.” A case was registered after getting permission under Section 17-A of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
What did BJP allegations?
According to ACB officials, classes were to be constructed at a cost of Rs 1,200 per sq ft, but the cost increased to about Rs 2,292 per sq ft. According to the complaint filed in 2019, the cost of per class was Rs 24.86 lakhs, which was more than Rs 5 lakh (almost) to be spent on similar projects in Delhi. The project consisted of 34 contractors, many of which were allegedly associated with AAP. BJP leaders Kapil Mishra, Harish Khurana and Neelkant Bakshi have also accused the then AAP government of poor financial management in three school zones.
