India’s per capita net national income or NNI for 2023-2024 is projected to be around Rs. 1,85,854, while the average own income of a Chief Minister is Rs. 13,64,310, which is about 7.3 times the average per capita income of India.

Two women chief ministers in the country

The ADR report also said that out of the 31 chief ministers in the country, 13 (42 per cent) have declared criminal cases against themselves, while 10 (32 per cent) have declared serious cases including attempt to murder, kidnapping, bribery and criminal intimidation. Ministers who have declared criminal cases, only two women are West Bengal’s Mamata Banerjee and Delhi Chief Minister Atishi.

The report says that West Bengal and Delhi are the only two states where there are women CMs. Apart from Mamata, Atishi is the only woman Chief Minister of the country. 38 year old Atishi is also the youngest CM of the country.

77-year-old Vijayan is the oldest Chief Minister of the country. The report also reveals that Nitish Kumar of Bihar is the only CM who is an MLC while all the rest are MLAs.
