Commission of India: Supreme Court reached the case of disturbances in Bihar voter list, hearing today

News India Live, Digital Desk: Commission of India: A major case of disturbances in the voter list (voter list) before the assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Bihar has now reached the Supreme Court. In fact, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued an order after which the process of fixing the voter list in Bihar, ie add new names or removing the names of dead/shifted voters has been stopped. Several petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court against this decision, which are to be heard today (or close to this time). People who file these petitions say that this decision of the Election Commission is absolutely wrong and directly violates Rule 21 of the ‘Public Representation Act, 1950’. According to this rule, it is mandatory to change the voter list and update it every year so that it remains accurate. The main concern of the petitioners is that by doing so, the Election Commission has stopped the process of removing about 3 million such names, which are either no longer in this world (have died) or have shifted to some other place. If such names are not removed from the voter list, then there may be a big disturbance in the elections and the possibility of rigging will increase. At the same time, many new young voters or those who are eligible will also be left connected to their names, which will affect their right to vote. The petitioners have appealed to the Supreme Court to immediately order the Election Commission to start the process of updating the voter list in Bihar. He says that to make elections fair and transparent, it is very important for the voter list to be clean and accurate. It will now be seen what the Supreme Court gives the verdict in this case.
