Congress Claims: 6 surgical strikes during UPA government tenure, BJP told ‘lies’

News India Live, Digital Desk: The Congress has reiterated its claim that six surgical strikes were carried out during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) being in power as the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) remained in power. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) immediately called it a lie.

It is noteworthy that Tharoor faced strong criticism for the comment within his party that India had its first surgical strike in response to a terrorist attack in 2016. Although his party’s ally Randeep Singh Surjewal supported him, the Congress General Secretary stressed that Thiruvananthapuram MP was wrong about the surgical strike.

In Hindustan Times, Surjewala quoted Surjewala as saying, “The Congress party corrected only by stating that the surgical strike against Pakistan and other hideouts was also a regular feature during the UPA tenure – to give a befitting reply to terrorists by our armed forces and Congress governments.”

While sharing a video on X, the Congress wrote, “Noida. No PR. Only decisive action. 6 surgical strikes were carried out under the Congress government.” However, the BJP also criticized the Congress’s being “corrupt” in terms of national security. Citing a question filed on the Right to Information (RTI) of April 2018, the BJP wrote, “There was no surgical strike under the UPA, as the DGMO has confirmed in response to the RTI question.” The party wrote in a post on X, “The timid (frightened) Congress should stop lying.”

Significantly, when Rahul Gandhi was the Congress President in 2018, he also claimed that the Indian Army had carried out three surgical strikes in Pakistan -occupied Kashmir (PoK) while the UPA government was in power.
