News India Live, Digital Desk: Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have launched a big and decisive operation to eliminate foreign terrorists hiding in the dense forests of Rajouri-Poonch. Jammu Zone Inspector General of Police (IGP) Anand Jain has said that efforts are being made with full strength and strategy to eliminate these terrorists and positive results will emerge soon.
Making forests a home
While talking to the media on Tuesday, IGP Anand Jain said that instead of taking shelter in residential areas, foreign terrorists infiltrating from across the border are now making the dense forests of the upper areas of Rajouri, Poonch and Kathua their safe haven. He said, “These terrorists are well trained and have modern weapons. They are hiding by taking advantage of the geography of these forests.”
He admitted that dealing with these foreign terrorists is a big challenge for the security forces, but our army, police and other security agencies are carrying out a coordinated operation to eliminate them.
What is the action plan of the security forces?
According to the IGP, a multi-tier strategy is being worked out to neutralize these terrorists:
- Use of technology: Drones, thermal imagers and other high-tech gadgets are being used to find the exact location of terrorists in the forests.
- Strengthening Human Intelligence: The network for gathering intelligence from the local population has been further strengthened so that every movement of the terrorists can be monitored.
- joint operation: Jammu and Kashmir Police, Indian Army and paramilitary forces are running a joint operation so that the terrorists are not given any chance to escape by cordoning off from all sides.
Funding terrorism through drugs
IGP Jain also told that terrorist organizations are now taking the help of drugs for their funding. He said, “Cross-border drug smuggling has become a new means of keeping terrorism alive. We have busted several big drugs rackets in recent times and are working to destroy this network completely.”
This tough stance and new strategy of the security forces is an indication that now it will be difficult for the terrorists hiding in these forests of Jammu and Kashmir to escape.
