Mumbai: Mohammad Farooq Yasin Mansoor alias Farooq Takla (66), who was arrested in March 2018 in the 1993 bomb blast case, has now been convicted by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of the Asplated Court in a separate case of fake passport.

The court sentenced Takla to five years of rigorous imprisonment. Takla was arrested at Delhi Airport in 2018. At this time he arrived here on the basis of fake passport from UAE. Takla has been in jail since 2018.

Farooq Takla is also an accused in the 1993 serial bomb blast case, extradited from the United Arab Emirates. He was declared a fugitive in 1993. His name came up as a conspirator in the 1993 serial bomb blast case.

Takla is accused of living in the United Arab Emirates with a fake identity card named Mushtaq Mohammad Mia. In 2001, he succeeded in getting a passport on the basis of fake identity card from the Indian Consulate General of Dubai. In 2011, he received a second passport from the consulate with the same fake identity. This passport was valid until 2021.

He used this passport to come to India in 2018. However, he was arrested at Delhi Airport. The CBI then registered a case against him under several allegations including fraud and forgery under the Passport Act and other sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate RD Chavan said in the order that ‘the evidence on the record ie oral and documentary evidence suggests that accused Mohammad Farooq Yasin Mansin Mansoor alias Farooq Takla applied for passport and passport renewal using Mushtaq Mohammad Mia.’ Which is not his real name, passport application and passport have wrong details, false information and fake signatures. This shows that the accused obtained passports by hiding his true identity and giving wrong information and also renewed it. Therefore, the court found Farooq Takla guilty and sentenced him to five years rigorous imprisonment.
