A new political controversy has arisen in Delhi. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Jarnail Singh has questioned the expenses incurred on the renewal of the government residence of Delhi Women’s Commission (DCW) Chairman Swati Maliwal. It is alleged that around Rs 3.5 lakh has been spent in these renewal, including air conditioner (AC), television (TV), CCTV cameras and things like a sofa.
MLA Jarnail Singh has targeted the government and the Delhi Women’s Commission for this expenditure. He says that this money is of public tax and it should not be used to collect luxury facilities for the house of a person sitting in a constitutional post. He has described this expenditure as unnecessary.
On the other hand, the Delhi Women’s Commission has presented its case on these allegations. The Commission says that these expenses have been made for general maintenance and necessary facilities of the residence-cum-office of the chairman of the Commission. It states that CCTV cameras have been installed from security point of view, and facilities like AC are necessary for official work and meetings in such weather. The Commission argues that this money is not part of the official arrangements, not for any personal use.
This case has now become a matter of political discussion, where one party is accusing him of alleged misuse of public money, while the other side is calling it part of the necessary system.
