Delhi Elections 2025: The real fight has started in Delhi even before the date of assembly elections is announced. After Aam Aadmi Party and Congress, now BJP has also announced candidates for 29 seats. After the release of BJP’s first list, all three parties have come face to face on many seats. The picture of conflict between Aam Aadmi Party President Arvind Kejriwal, his right-hand man Manish Sisodia and current Chief Minister Atishi has become clear. Who will win will be known after the elections but the contest on these 3 seats of Delhi will be very interesting.
Former Chief Minister Kejriwal’s confrontation with the sons of two former Chief Ministers
Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who has resigned from New Delhi seat for the fourth time, is going to face the sons of two former Chief Ministers. Congress has fielded Parvesh Verma in line with BJP’s expectation that Sheila Dikshit’s son Sandeep Dikshit will be fielded against Kejriwal. Which has created a stir here through ‘Laadli Yojana’. Parvesh Verma is the son of former Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma. From student leader to MP, Parvesh Verma is a charismatic leader. Also, Sandeep Dixit is increasing Kejriwal’s troubles with the help of his mother Sheila Dixit’s ‘goodwill and sympathy’. Kejriwal may have defeated Sheila Dikshit from this seat, but that year was different and this year is also different. Since then, a lot of water has flowed in Yamuna and the situation has also worsened. Arvind Kejriwal, born in the lap of anti-corruption movement, first challenged Sheila Dikshit by accusing her of corruption and has now come to ask for a certificate of his honesty.
In 2020, Arvind Kejriwal won from this seat by a margin of 21697 votes. But then Sunil Kumar Yadav from BJP and Romesh Sabharwal from Congress were candidates against him. At that time, Kejriwal was given a walkover by fielding such relatively weak candidates from both the armies. However, the way BJP and Congress have fielded two big faces from New Delhi this time, it is certain that Kejriwal will have to work hard to save his seat.
Manish Sisodia will also have to face a tough challenge
Manish Sisodia, who won the Patparganj seat by a small margin in 2020, has been made the candidate from Jangpura seat this time. The party fielded him from a very reserved seat. But, the battle of Jangpura against Congress and BJP candidates is no longer easy. Congress had already created trouble for Sisodia by making Farhad Suri its candidate against Sisodia, now BJP has increased it further by giving ticket to former MLA Sardar Tarvinder Singh Marwah. There is a good population of Muslim and Sikh voters in this seat. Both BJP and Congress have cornered Sisodia on communalism. Veteran Congress leader Marwah has been MLA from Jangpura three times. He joined BJP in 2022. Also, Farhad Suri is a well-known face of Jangpura and Delhi politics. He has been continuously winning the election of councilor from Nizamuddin ward. He is the son of veteran Delhi Congress leader Tajdar Babar. Suri’s mother has also been MLA twice.
Veteran leaders will contest elections against Atishi also!
Complete preparations have been made to corner Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on the Kaljati seat. Just a day before, Congress has fielded influential woman leader Alka Lamba against him. Now BJP has also declared former MP Ramesh Budhuri as its candidate. Ramesh Bidhuri is a powerful leader of South Delhi and has a strong hold among the common people there. Atishi, who won the last election from Kalkaji seat by about 11 thousand votes, will have to face a triangular contest this time. If Alka Lamba is successful in dividing the anti-BJP votes here, then problems may increase for Atishi. Even before the announcement of the candidate, Bidhuri had started door-to-door campaigning here. By cutting his ticket in the Lok Sabha elections, the party had already indicated its preparation for the Assembly.
What is the plan of BJP-Congress?
While BJP wants to end its nearly three-decade-long exile in Delhi, Congress is also gearing up for a do-or-die fight in its stronghold. The way Congress has chosen its candidates this time, which had lost nil in the last two elections, shows that the party is putting all its efforts in this election. BJP and Congress have tried to corner the three biggest leaders of AAP in their own homes by fielding veteran candidates. Both parties want that Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Atishi should pay more attention to Potcha seat and less attention to other seats. This election in Delhi is going to be difficult for AAP which is facing 10 years of anti-incumbency wave.
