Chhath Puja 2025: Full calendar of four days practice

First day: Nahai-Khay (Wednesday, 5 November 2025)

• What is special: This is the beginning of this difficult fast from here. On this day, Vrati (fasting) takes a bath in the Ganges or a holy river and receives offerings of gourd rice and gram with full purity. With this, the body and mind are prepared for the next three days of practice.

Second day: Kharna (Thursday, 6 November 2025)

• What is special: This day is very important. On this day, Vrati fasts for the whole day and after worship in the evening, he receives jaggery and rice kheer (rasiyaav) and bread offerings. Only after eating this prasad, the most difficult Nirjala (without water) of 36 hours begins.

Third day: Sandhya Arghya (Friday, 7 November 2025)

• What is special: This is the heart of Chhath Puja. On this day, the fasts gather along the river or pond with their entire family and stand in the water to the waist and offer their first arghya to the sun drowning. This view of Chhath’s songs and millions of lamps burning in water is not less than any heaven.

Fourth day: Usha Arghya (Saturday, 8 November 2025)

• What is special: This is the last stop of four days of penance. On this day, fasting reaches the same ghat before sunrise and gives its second and final arghya to the rising sun. With this, this mahaparva is completed and the fasts opens a hard fast of 36 hours.
