Does India also buy oil from Venezuela? Trump’s panic due to this move, understand that China’s tension

[ad_1]

China is the largest buyer of Venezuela’s crude oil. It bought around 503,000 barrels of oil in February, 55% of the total exports of Venezuela. Spain, Italy and Cuba are also major importers. The US is also buying crude oil from Venezuela, but these imports will stop in early April. Until Washington extends this period forward. Indian refineries will now have to reconsider their purchasing strategy.

Possibility of increasing Russian oil imports

According to news agency Reuters, companies like Indian Oil Corporation and Bharat Petroleum Corporation are issuing less spot tenders to buy crude oil. The reason for this is that Russian supply has come to a standstill after restrictions by Western countries. With the resumption of Russian oil supply through unnecessary tankers, Indian refineries can increase the import of Russian crude oil to reduce the increase in costs due to American tariffs on Venezuela oil.

Tariff on Venezuela oil is just a part of Trump’s comprehensive trade policy. The US administration plans to announce a new tariff on imports of automobiles, pharmaceuticals and semiconductors on 2 April. Trump has long been using tariffs to pressurize colleagues and opponents. Conservationist measures have increased since his return to the White House.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant has indicated that Washington is interacting with several business partners to fix trade imbalances. He also said that the upcoming tariff measures will target about 15 countries, which he called ‘Dirty 15’.

Why does Trump want to stop oil imports from Venezuela?

Trump’s announcement has come amid growing tension between the United States and Venezuela. The latest trade restrictions have been imposed after the US suspended exile flights to Venezuela. Washington has accused Venezuela of not respecting the agreement to withdraw migrants. Venezuela refused to accept the exiled people. However, recently a new agreement has been reached to resume these flights. Under the new agreement, around 200 Venezuelas were deported from the US via Honduras.

Meanwhile, the US has extended the operational discount for Chevron in Venezuela till 27 May. The US oil company is working under the ban exemption. This has allowed him to continue limited activities in the country. This period of concessions indicates that Washington is adopting a selective approach in its restriction policy to maintain economic pressure on Venezuela. In addition, some flexibility can be maintained for American companies working there.

Big danger for India

The impact of these fees on India will depend on how the refineries respond to the possible cost increase. If the crude oil of Venezuela becomes very expensive due to additional tariffs, companies can seek alternative sources, including more dependence on dandruff. However, the global crude oil market remains unstable. Any change in supply can affect prices and energy security.

If oil prices rise due to American tariffs, it may increase inflation pressure in India. This can affect transport, manufacturing and overall economic development. Since geopolitical uncertainty continues, Indian refineries may face the complex landscape of changing trade policies and supply chain restructuring in the coming months.
