Drivers without fastag will be exempted from double the fine at toll booths, will be less charged if they make digital payments, know full details

UPI Payment Fastag: The central government has taken an important decision for drivers across the country, which will further boost digital payments at toll plazas. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a new rule, according to which the method of paying toll tax for vehicles without fastag on national highways will change. This rule will be applicable from November 15, 2025.

According to the new rule, if a driver passes through the national highway without a fastag and pays cash toll tax, he will have to pay double toll tax. For example, if the toll tax through fastag is Rs 100, he will have to pay Rs 200 cash. However, if the driver uses UPI or any other digital payment method, he will have to pay only Rs 125 (1.25 times) toll tax. This will save non-fasting users using UPI up to Rs 75.

Under the current rules, vehicles without fastag have to pay double toll tax on cash or UPI payment. The new rule has been brought with the objective of promoting digital payments and reducing cash payments. This step will strengthen the vision of Digital India and boost the fast and easy payment process on the toll plaza.

This new rule has brought great relief for non-fasting users, which will now be able to avail less toll tax through UPI. This decision of the government will not only promote digital transactions, but will also help reduce the use of cash on the toll plaza.
