The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is going to take a big step to make online transactions more safe. Given the increasing cases of online fraud, RBI is now planning to launch a Dynamic 2-Factor Authentication (2FA). Under this new way, users have to use not only one-time password (OTP) for transactions, but also add another layer of security such as passwords or biometrics. This step will help prevent online fraud and make users’ financial transactions more secure.
Dynamic 2-Facilitated Certification?
Dynamic 2-Factor Authentication is a safety method in which the user has to give two different types of identity evidence. Currently, most OTPs are used for online transactions, which are sent to the registered mobile number of the user. But under the new arrangement, apart from OTP, the user will also have to use biometrics such as password, fingerprint or face ID. These two levels of security would be almost impossible to hack the transaction for fraudsters.
This method is already being used on Instagram, Gmail and other digital platforms. For example, when you log in to Gmail, you also require an OTP or verification code sent on a device other than your user ID and password. RBI is now planning to implement this technology in online transactions as well.
Various 2-Faculty Certification Options
RBI can offer several options to make this security system flexible:
OTP: A password used once to be sent to the user’s registered mobile number.
Authentic Apps: Code generated for a few seconds by apps such as Google authentic.
Biometrics: Use of technology like fingerprint or face ID.
Password: A safe password made by the user.
other device: If the user uses two devices, the verification code can be sent to another device.
These various options will give users freedom to choose the security method at their convenience. RBI is planning to implement these facilities from April 1, 2026.
Biometrics: safest option
Online fraud cases often include incidents such as mobile theft, SIM cloning or hacking. In such a situation, biometrics are one of the most reliable security options. It is almost impossible to steal biometric identities such as fingerprint and face ID, as the physical appearance of the user is necessary for their use. Therefore, even if the mobile is stolen, it will be difficult for hackers to do transactions.
RBI purpose
The main objective of RBI is to make digital transactions more secure and reliable. This new method is an important step to prevent increasing cases of online fraud and protect users’ financial data. In addition, by providing various safety options to users, they will be able to choose the authentication method according to their convenience and requirement. This new security method will be applicable from the beginning of 2026, and users should be ready for it. This move of RBI will help in making Digital India more secure.
