News India Live, Digital Desk: The election atmosphere has started heating up in Jammu and Kashmir. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced the names of its three candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections to be held on October 24 in the Union Territory. In this list, the party has expressed confidence in old and experienced leaders, in which the name of Jammu and Kashmir BJP President Satpal Sharma is also included.

These three giants got a chance

The three names approved by the BJP’s Central Election Committee are:

1. Satpal Sharma: Satpal Sharma is currently the President of Jammu and Kashmir BJP and is considered a big leader of the party. His re-election to this post shows how high his stature is in the party.
2. Rakesh Mahajan: Rakesh Mahajan is also an old party worker and leader. By making him a candidate, the party has tried to give a big message to the grassroots level workers.
3. Ghulam Mohammad Mir: BJP has also indicated to strengthen its hold in Kashmir Valley by making Ghulam Mohammad Mir its candidate. Mir is an important face of the party and through him BJP is trying to reach out to the people of Kashmir.

What is the equation of Rajya Sabha?

Elections are being held for a total of four Rajya Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir. BJP has fielded its candidates on three seats, which has made this election quite interesting. If we look at the numerical strength, the National Conference-Congress alliance seems to have the upper hand on three seats, while BJP is in a strong position on one seat, but by fielding three candidates, BJP has made it clear that it is not going to accept defeat easily and will make the contest tough.

This election is also special because this is the first Rajya Sabha election in Jammu and Kashmir after the removal of Article 370. Now it remains to be seen how successful this strategy of BJP is and which faces from Jammu and Kashmir reach the Rajya Sabha.
