Bashar al-Assad was ruling Syria as President since 2000. He was also an army chief and a brutal dictator who oppressed civilians and crushed basic rights. People thought he was a cannibalistic monster and ran away. Assad was supported by Russia. America supplied weapons to Civil War armies. More than six lakh people died in the last 13 years. Citizens became so angry that they formed a parallel army that started a civil war with Assad’s forces. Ultimately the rebel army succeeded in attacking the Syrian capital, Damascus. Assad potentially escaped with billions of rupees and thousands of kilos of gold. Russia has given him asylum. Millions of citizens gathered on public streets in Syria to celebrate the release of Assad.
