New Delhi: There is a huge and good news for those traveling abroad. Government of India soon replaced traditional passport E-passport Is planning to release. This new passport will not only be modern in appearance, but will also be much better in terms of safety.

This step will include India in the list of countries that already issue biometric passports to its citizens.

What is e-passport?
The e-passport will be similar to a normal passport booklet, but its cover will have a small electronic chip. This chip is like a SIM card, in which all your important information will be secured in digital form.

Specialty of e-Pasport:

  1. Imperative security: This chip will store the biometric data of passport holder (eg fingerprint and eye scan) and personal information. This will make it almost impossible to make a duplicate of passport or manipulate it.

  2. Time will be left at the airport: Passengers with e-passports will be able to clear the immigration in minutes by scanning their passport on the ‘e-gate’ at the airport. This will end the hassle of long lines.

  3. International Standards: This passport will suit the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which will make it easier to prove the identity of Indian travelers abroad.

How long will you get and how will it be made?

  • Launch date: According to the report, the government 2025 Till the e-Pasport is working on a plan to roll-out.

  • Application process: The way to apply for e-passport will be the same as before. You have to fill the online form on the website of Passport India and take an appointment at Passport Seva Kendra (PSK). The only difference will be that now your biometric data will also be recorded during the appointment, which will be stored directly into the chip.

  • Who can make: When this facility starts, e-Passport will be issued to both types of citizens applying for new passports and renewing old passports.

This step will not only make Indian travel documents safe, but will also prove to be an important milestone towards ‘Digital India’.
