News India Live, Digital Desk: Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) is likely to start annual and lifetime toll passes for private vehicle owners, which aim to make highway travel more comfortable and cost -effective. According to media reports, these new toll passes will be integrated into the current fastag system. It is important to note that the annual and lifetime passes are currently in the proposal stage and have not yet been implemented.
Proposed fast The purpose is to simplify the highway journey by eliminating repeated recharge requirement and reducing the crowds at toll booths. This system is designed to work without the need for an additional tool or document, which represents a modern, visionary approach to toll collection in India. The Ministry of Transport is also considering the dual payment system under the new toll system, which will give users the option to choose between annual passes and distance-based pricing.
Fastag Annual Toll Pass: Price and Validity
By recharging a fastag of Rs 3,000 at a time, private vehicle owners will be able to travel on all national highways, state expressways and other expressways without any additional toll fee throughout the year. This will eliminate the need to recharge the fastag account for every journey.
Lifetime fastag toll pass: price and validity
Under the new toll system, the government has canceled the earlier proposal, which suggested to keep the price of lifetime fastag for a validity period of 15 years.
Distance-based fastg toll pass: price and validity
For those who travel occasionally, a flat toll of Rs 50 per 100 kilometers can replace the existing toll plaza fee structure. This model is often known as the “Pay-Az-U-Go” system.
Will existing fastag users need a new account?
According to the report, the current fastag users will be able to join the new system without changing their account details or without submitting additional documents. The annual pass will work through the existing Fastag infrastructure.
New toll pass system features
According to the Times of India report, the new toll pass system is expected to improve traffic flows on national highways and simplify the journey. It proposes to eliminate traditional toll booths and implement sensor-based digital toll collections for obstruct-free travel. This system will depend on GPS and automatic vehicle tracking to facilitate toll cuts. Currently, private car owners can buy a monthly rechargeable pass in ₹ 340, which is a total of ₹ 4,080 annually, valid for a toll plaza.
