News India Live, Digital Desk: The happy month of Ramadan is the month of worship, patience and gratitude. Fasting, one of the five pillars of Islam, is a duty on every healthy Muslim. But many people consider fasting only as abstinence from eating and drinking. In reality, a perfect fast is one in which every part of the human body is in worship of Allah and abstains from evil.

What is ‘Fasting of Organs’?

According to Islamic scholars, a fasting person should take special care of the following things:

Eye fasting: Not to see any non-mahram (stranger) or evil thing.

Fasting of ears: Do not listen to backbiting, evil or useless talk.

Fasting of tongue: Don’t lie, don’t abuse anyone and don’t hurt anyone.

Stomach fasting: Abstaining from unlawful earnings and not eating or drinking anything from Sehri to Iftar.

Fasting of hands and feet: Do not oppress anyone and do not follow the wrong path.

Intention to fast (dua for suhoor)

After you eat Sehri (pre-morning meal), it is important to make the intention to fast. Fasting without intention is not considered complete.

Supplication: Navaitu un asuma gadaan lillahi taala min shari ramadan. Translation: “I intended to fast tomorrow in Ramadan for the sake of Allah.”

Dua for breaking fast (iftar dua)

After sunset, when it is time for Iftar, recite this dua while breaking the fast with dates or water.

Supplication: Allahumma inni laka sumatu wa bika amantu wa alaika tawakkalatu wa ala rizqika aftaratu. Translation: “O Allah! I fasted only for You, believed in You, trusted You and broke the fast from the sustenance provided by You.”

Three Ashra (Phases) of Ramadan

Ramadan is divided into three parts, called ‘Ashra’:

First Ashra (1-10 days): Of mercy (Allah’s mercy is showered).

Second Ashra (11-20 days): Of Magfirat (forgiveness of sins).

Third Ashra (21-30 days): Of salvation from the fire of hell.
