News India Live, Digital Desk: Amarnath Yatra: Baba Barfani’s journey to the holy cave is a great Mahaparva of faith for millions of devotees every year. But this year, the path of Amarnath Yatra seems to be deserted. A week has passed, but there is a huge decrease in the number of devotees, and the biggest reason for this is the recent terrorist attacks.

This year, in the first 6 days of the yatra, only 36,561 devotees have been able to see the holy cave. If we compare it from last year, then this figure is very low. By this time last year, more than one lakh devotees had seen Baba Barfani. It is clear that this time the number of devotees has fallen by about 60%.
Real reason for fear: Pahalgam terrorist attack
The biggest reason for this fear and decline is a terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 8 July. The terrorists directly targeted the devotees, in which several pilgrims from Rajasthan were injured. This attack has created fear in the minds of those across the country, who were preparing to go to Amarnath. Now people are worried about the safety of themselves and their family.
Government cleaning and ground reality
However, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha is not ready to accept this. He says that there is no atmosphere of fear about the journey and “unprecedented” arrangements of security have been made. He is trying to prove that everything is fine.
But the ground reality is telling something else. The government may be talking about not being afraid, but arrangements like deployment of heavy security forces, monitoring of drones and RFID tag are evidence of how big the danger is.
Despite the efforts of the government, the shadow of terror seems to be overshadowing this year’s visit. It remains to be seen whether the government is able to win the trust of the devotees in the coming days or not.
